Within the years, the number of the passengers travelling to Antalya has showed a huge growth. They come for business, pleasure or even just to visit but this is a fact that Antalya needs to develop its infrastructure. Hamdi Yıldırım, Undersecretary of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Ministry, has announced that there would be a third airport to be built in Antalya. The construction will be directed by General Directorate of Infrastructural Investments and the operation will be carried out by DHMİ.

Kaş region is 200 kilometers from Antalya center and 190 kilometers from Dalaman Airport. If a third airport is built in these two areas, “providing an airport every 100 kilometers” plan will be able to carried out. This project is very beneficial and profitable so that Antalya’s regional tourism and economic industry can develop more. The project will be planned in such way that its capacity can be expanded later when there is demand.

However, it is still not decided where the third airport should be constructed and whether it should be an international airport or not. There are approximately 4 alternatives and the government looks through especially the area located around Kaş, Demre and Finike. At the stage of the decision, they will take the technical issues, historic fabric and environment into consideration. Besides, as known, these districts are surrounded by forests so they has also noted this fact.

After that all the studies of the project have been carried out, the tender process will be studied as soon as possible. It is said that this future project will have great potential and will be a huge supporter for the growing industry of the region.
